Standards of Care

Chlorhexidine is the standard of care for infection prevention because of its efficacy, safety and long duration. Public and private sector health care organizations, professional associations and institutions have included chlorhexidine, in many forms, in their standards and guidelines for infection prevention in the healthcare setting.

Safety and contraindications of the use of a specific chlorhexidine product in special populations should always be evaluated (e.g. infants).
